How To Be Sexier And Smarter At The Same Time

Knowledge is one of the most attractive things we can have.

Sometimes knowledge comes in the form of what we know, other times in the form of things we can do and skills we have.

We live in a world where it’s become more necessary than ever to have eclectic knowledge and diverse skillsets.

Men are running out of ways to feel special

It’s not enough that we make money or have status, because women today already have these things.

We have to work a little harder to be interesting

We cannot afford NOT to be a Renaissance man or woman with a variety of skillsets, art forms and knowledge bases.

Knowledge and skill is a good look on anyone – as is curiosity which inevitably leads us to these things.

And attraction is sustained for longer periods of time when you’re able to keep surprising your partner.

Challenge:

Go and learn about or study something that you have no real need for. Just do something new.

When you’ve decided, leave a comment about the thing you’ve picked. Then come back and leave another at the end of the week to let me know how you’ve gotten on! Do you feel more interesting? Do you have a story because of it?

Be sure to let me know as you’ll be giving me ideas for what I can go on to do next myself!

  • Love it Matthew!!!! I am going to learn how to speak Spanish because everyone asks me If I speak Spanish due to my dark hair and brown eyes. wish me luck!!!

  • I think that I’ve learnt to explore more in each week about anything. I really want tone a good communicator because it will make my life much more easier than not knowing ;-)

  • Matthew, I am so excited to see this. I’ve been watching lectures on String Theory, Albert Einstein and the fabric of space time. I love it, and it has nothing to do with my career. My next order of business is to learn Spanish and take up Salsa Dancing. What motivates the disciplines you find interesting? For me, it’s a mixture of total randomness and trying to emulate people I respect (namely you:)

    1. Highly recommend Salsa! Started classes this week and although I felt like Norma no mates for a few minutes at the start it turned out to be so much fun and a great way to meet and chat to new people. :0)

  • Astrophysics did the job for me – fun topic to study and many opportunities for discussing e.g. What’s inside a black hole? Is it possible to timetravel..

  • Ironic timing of this video. I decided two weeks ago I wanted to start playing an instrument I used to play years ago as a child. First week did not get too far, even though I had great intentions. Recent week gone, went into a music shop feeling like a complete idiot as an adult learning this again. But I bought some books and music and made myself look through them.
    Also want to learn to knit. Sounds odd but I have an idea for a jacket that looks like Chanel couture. Herein lies the problem. I want to be Virtuoso standard and advanced knitwear designer all in one week.
    I am forcing myself to start, not keep putting it off as I am so rubbish.
    Will see how far I get this week.
    Lots of love, keep going yourself Matt. Crikey, as if you aren’t interesting enough already!
    K xx
    PS This isn’t going to make me more interesting is it : )

    1. Missed the point, it’s about knowledge not projects. Will download some podcasts, not artsy but scientific. I follow Commander Hadfield on Twitter, will learn about the experiments, knowledge they are learning from space. Considering how many people are following him this would be very good for conversing about, being knowledgeable on ; ) xx

  • Funnily enough, after re-reading your book last week, I am putting myself out there and I just started Salsa classes (How much fun??!) have started running again and have signed myself up for a writers’ group, a singing group and am going to go to a regular pub quiz (all stuff which costs very little money as I am officially a poor student at the moment – I am currently learning French and studying English language). Have said ‘Yes’ to an invitation to a chocolate workshop. Have also just arranged a long weekend camping with a girlfriend and we have booked ouselves on a high ropes course! I don’t think I’m doing too badly…?! Following this video, however, I will actually place the order for the book ‘The power of now’ that I’ve had in my shopping basket for months. Thanks Matt! :0)

  • I set myself the goal of memorizing all the kings of my country in the right order. I’m always very embarrassed when this topic comes up in conversations and haven’t a clue of who was our last king :s

  • I like your idea….and since time is factor for me, I decided try, the “learn one new thing a day” method.

    Today though, I learned two new things…..the first one, I could practice instantly, and the second one, may take some research to actually do it. The first was learning how to make symbols (other than smiley faces) using my keyboard. This process took me about 20 minutes from start to finish (research to practice). I didn’t realize there were so many of them.

    The second new thing I’ve learned, (and just need to put into practice) is “How to Ride a Mechanical Bull”…(hold on with your dominant hand, squeeze your thighs, relax your upper body, etc)….The only probably, that I will need to research is where to find a ‘bull’ from to practice on in my country :P!

    I can’t wait to find out what else I can learn….in just 1 day!

  • Is it too geeky to learn the capital cities of every country in the world…?? My brother and I learned these when we were younger and going on lots of car journeys. I used to know them all but have forgotten. I’m going to try and learn one new one every day, sad and geeky or not! :0)

  • Hi Matt! This is great advice! Learning new knowledge constantly is indeed Alzheimer’s biggest enemy! Thanks Matt!

  • Matt, this is my favorite of your videos :)

    You must check out TED.com, you will love it. Perfect place to send people to follow through on the suggestion in the video.

    1. I was thinking the same thing! Although I usually watch the TED talks about education since that’s relevant to my career … So now I must go and find a TED talk I wouldn’t normally watch and learn something new :)

  • One of my goals for this year is to read The Bible from cover to cover in 1 year, I already started! :)

    And Thanks Matt, for sharing your points of view in life, they are refreshing!

  • Hey Matt, You have just inspired me to go back to something I was learning a few months ago but stopped…..Italian ! I have been umming and ahhhing for a few weeks now about whether to take it back up, but now I’m sure. I really loved it and love being able to speak another language, I practised with some of my friends and they found me annoying because they couldn’t understand what I was saying.
    Also, I am studying for a BSc. so learning loads of new stuff all the time, though it is incredibly hard work,
    Angela xx

  • What language were you speaking?
    I already do this sort of stuff, i.e. learn new things. I’ve actually gone back to school to get a degree in stats and probability so my brain is on summer vacation as we just had final exams.

    my philosophy is to try anything once

  • The problem I run into is in expressing my opinions, knowledge and hobbies in a way that people find compelling. When I start talking to my single friends and sometimes dates, I immediately see their eyes glazing over and they change the subject quickly to something that they care about. I have thrown myself into their hobbies and interests and found that I’m just doing all of the work, reading books they suggest and engaging in their lives, without any reciprocation. I enjoyed every moment of it, but in the end, it’s not ending up in a lasting connection because there isn’t a return of interest. I have hobbies, and I have a thirst for knowledge, I’m constantly learning new things. I make an effort to present everything with passion and I have a bubbly and friendly personality. I just need help in presenting my opinions and my joys and passions and struggles in a way that people find compelling. for more than 15 seconds. How can I do this Matt?

    I see this as a giant thread in the replies to this video. People have knowledge, they are interested in others and their hobbies and lives, but this interest is not reciprocated. Is it a sign of weakness or desperation to show interest in another person’s life and interests? Or are most single 40 somethings completely now devoid of personal skills? I actually talk a lot to my married friends because they have much better listening skills than my single friends.

  • I loved when you spoke chinese! So cool and sexy, yet I have no idea what you said, could have been “Your nostrils look like giant noodles, darling” and Id be none the wiser! haha

    Im already fluent in spanish and english, apart from swedish (bragging, I know) so I got the language part down.
    This fall Im gonna join a choir to improve my singing and also learn how to drive a car! Its going to be exciting!

    All the best to you!

    I recommend this site for you matthew, since you are in the people business and want to know more about how people tick… its http://www.karlamclaren.com . Give it a try! :)

  • I started long time ago to do every day something new or new way of doing old things:
    * sat on the different table in the restaurant I like
    * walked different roads in the park
    * tried new fruits
    * visited different countries
    * different hair style
    * different outfits
    * went on the date with myself
    * played new music instrument
    * took singing classes
    * did my own yoga studio where everyone else can come to try new things
    * sent letters to my old friends
    * went to tantra courses
    * swam with dolphins (life changing experience)
    * wrote a book (it will be out this year!)
    * new dancing costume and practicing dancing
    * took a new job in Mexico to get out from my comfort zone
    * read new book about mind-trips to the future and actually did some
    * decided to not date with wrong guys
    * looked up new places in the world I would like to go
    * started Get the Guy program (oh man, this is amazing!)
    * took a Youtube small course about how to paint flower with water-colour
    And this is what always helps: listen to good new music!

    Here is what I decide to do starting from today:
    *** not expecting and waiting this year ***

    I am so grateful for all you do and all you are!
    Keep doing your great thing and I know it can sound a little bit naive.. but please take some good time sometimes to have really nice rest, dear Matt! We need you :)
    Love
    Stella

    1. Thanks Stella!!

      I’ll make sure not to burn out on you, don’t worry. Right now my entire focus is on bringing you great stuff that can help you each week. I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying it : )
